Week Two of our Summer 2026 season at Haverford College welcomed another fantastic group of junior chefs for Al Fresco Flavors. From June 29–July 3, campers explored the fresh tastes of summer while building confidence through engaging, hands-on culinary and baking experiences. Together, they discovered how simple, seasonal ingredients can be transformed into colorful, flavorful dishes perfect for sharing with family and friends all summer long.

Throughout the week, junior chefs strengthened essential culinary skills including knife work, sautéing, baking, seasoning, kitchen organization, and teamwork. Every recipe encouraged campers to think creatively, work collaboratively, and gain confidence as they prepared meals and desserts completely from scratch. Whether they were chopping fresh vegetables, mixing cake batter, or a creating delicious pizza, every day offered new opportunities to learn and grow.
Leading another outstanding week at Haverford was Chef Carisa, whose passion for teaching and creativity inspired junior chefs to try new techniques, explore new flavors, and take pride in every dish they prepared. Assisting throughout the week was Instructional Assistant I'Jhier, whose enthusiasm, patience, and encouragement helped create a welcoming classroom where every camper felt comfortable asking questions, learning new skills, and celebrating each accomplishment.

One of the highlights of Week Two was welcoming back several junior chefs who have spent previous summers cooking with Create-a-Cook, while also introducing many new campers to the Create-a-Cook family for the very first time. Watching returning campers share their confidence, encourage new friends, and help build a supportive kitchen community is one of the things that makes each summer at Haverford so special.
One of the unique features of our full-day Haverford program is that junior chefs experience both culinary arts and baking & pastry every day. This allows campers to develop a wide variety of cooking and baking techniques while preparing an impressive collection of savory dishes and sweet treats throughout the week.

The excitement, teamwork, and creativity that filled our classroom each day are exactly what make the Create-a-Cook experience so memorable.
