Our Conshohocken Campus buzzed with excitement this week as we kicked off our first session of the Create-a-Cook Summer Cooking Camp. This week, our 12 enthusiastic junior chefs embarked on a Culinary Adventure that ignited their passion for the kitchen and honed their budding skills.

A Week of Mastery and Fun

Monday: Chicken Fried Rice

The week began with the irresistible aroma of sizzling Chicken Fried Rice. Our junior chefs learned the essentials of stir-frying, mastering the art of balancing flavors and textures. They diced vegetables, scrambled eggs, and sautéed chicken to create a delicious, well-rounded dish that introduced them to the complexities of Asian cuisine.


  • Perfecting knife skills for precise vegetable cuts.

  • Understanding how to balance savory and umami flavors.

Tuesday: Chocolate Zucchini Bread

Tuesday was all about baking with a twist! The junior chefs were delighted to discover that zucchini could be transformed into a delectable dessert. They explored the science of baking, learning how ingredients like baking soda and chocolate interact to create a moist, rich Chocolate Zucchini Bread.


  • Understanding the role of moisture in baking.

  • Experimenting with flavor combinations.

  • Realizing the surprising versatility of vegetables in desserts.

Wednesday: Caramelized Simple French Toast with Chantilly Cream and Strawberry Compote

Mid-week brought a touch of elegance with a French classic. Our junior chefs mastered the technique of caramelizing bread to perfection, creating a beautiful golden crust. They whipped up Chantilly Cream, learning the balance of sweetness and texture, and crafted a fresh Strawberry Compote that added a burst of flavor to their dish.

Preparing a fruit compote to complement the dish.

Thursday: Vanilla Cake

On Thursday, the kitchen was filled with the sweet scent of Vanilla Cake. The junior chefs explored the fundamentals of cake baking, from creaming butter and sugar to achieving the perfect rise. Each chef decorated their cake, expressing their creativity through frosting and presentation.


  • Mastering the basic techniques of cake baking.

  • Understanding the chemistry behind rising agents like baking powder.

  • Developing artistic skills in cake decoration.

Friday: Taco Pizza

We wrapped up the week with a fun and inventive fusion dish: Taco Pizza. Combining the beloved elements of tacos and pizza, our junior chefs created a flavorful and colorful dish. They learned to make pizza dough from scratch, season taco meat, and combine various toppings to create a unique culinary creation.


  • Crafting homemade pizza dough and understanding yeast fermentation.

  • Exploring fusion cuisine by blending Mexican and Italian flavors.

  • Developing organizational skills through complex assembly.

Beyond the Recipes: Skills for a Lifetime

Our Culinary Adventures course isn’t just about following recipes; it’s about cultivating a deep understanding of culinary arts. This week, our junior chefs:

  • Enhanced their knife skills, learning safe and effective cutting techniques.

  • Delved into the science of baking, understanding how different ingredients interact.

  • Gained hands-on experience in various cooking methods like sautéing, searing, and baking.

  • Learned essential organizational skills, preparing them for more complex culinary challenges.
